Japan

My first assignment was to the US base located in Iwakuni, Japan. I was eighteen at the time and too young to go to bars that served only people who were 21 and older.

So looking for ways to pass my time, I purchased a Minolta Hi-Matic 35mm camera at the Marine Corps Exchange for $25. In some way before I arrived here, I just knew I would be photographing with a camera.

My friend and I learned that we could go to the Sake bars in the towns that were in and around Hiroshima. I photographed bar girls and Japanese Torii which are the traditional japanese gates that formed the entryway to the shinto shrines.
